Regional Groups are an important part of the EMU network. They create spaces where members can exchange ideas more closely with neighbouring countries, because they share similar educational systems, cultural backgrounds, challenges, and priorities. In this sense, they “speak the same language” – not only literally, but also in terms of experiences and needs.
Within these smaller groups, it is often easier to discuss concrete topics in greater depth, develop ideas together, and learn from each other in a very direct way. Regional Groups can become a strong platform for cooperation, inspiration, and mutual support.
Regional Groups also play an important role within EMU as a whole. Through ongoing dialogue with the EMU Board, they help bring forward new topics, initiatives, concerns and ideas from their regions. In return, the Board relies on the perspectives, expertise, and feedback from the Regional Groups when shaping future priorities and activities.
Currently, EMU includes the Regional Groups for the Nordic Countries Regional Group, Visegrad Regional Group, LLACHD Regional Group, and Onda Latina Regional Group.
Of course, not every member is part of a Regional Group, and members can decide for themselves whether this format is useful and relevant for them, as well as which group – or even groups – they would like to join. Wherever there is interest, the EMU Board is happy to encourage and support the further development of these groups as an important way of strengthening exchange, participation, and cooperation across Europe.
