Representatives of music school associations from Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, Austria, Switzerland and Germany exchanged views on current challenges in the field of musical education. Working sessions and the exchange of information on country-specific priorities were on the agenda of this two-day meeting in Echternach, Luxembourg.

While several topics related to the music school and education landscape were discussed, the focus was on music schools as an attractive workplace, and one of the main concerns was the future need for qualified teachers. The VdM presented the results of the “Mikado Music” study and the survey on retirements, which predict a glaring shortage of young teachers by 2035.

Participating in the panel discussion were Roger Szedalik (Liechtensteinische Musikschule), Nadine Eder, Romain Asselborn, Bob Morhard und Marc Demuth (AEM, Luxembourg), Mathias Lang (KOMU, Austria), Eva Crastan and Christian Braun (VMS, Switzerland) as well as Friedrich-Koh Dolge, Volker Gerland, Raphael Amend und Christop Peters (VdM, Germany).
